This Week's Dom's Digest

Welcome to the last Dom’s Digest of 2018!

I’m taking a few weeks off to celebrate Christmas and New Year with the family. I hope you have a great one planned too. I know 2018 has been wild so I’m looking forward to a little rest.

I’ll be back in the New Year with a new edition to hopefully entertain, intrigue and help you make 2019 the best year yet.

Until then enjoy this edition of Dom’s Digest - a quick snapshot list of interesting stuff I’m enjoying or thinking about right now.

From all of the team here at Barttech have a fantastic Christmas and a rip roaring New Year! Thanks for being part of my community. I hope to bring more helpful business resources to you over the next year and beyond.

Audiobook Worth Listening To

This Is Marketing - You Can’t Be Seen Until You Learn to See By Seth Godin.

This book is a refreshing look at marketing as it should be, from one of the world’s leading entrepreneurs and marketers -Seth Godin.

It truly reflects my attitude to marketing not being hyped or spammy and used to highlight solutions which people can get help from.

The summary on the back reads; Now, for the first time, Godin offers the core of his marketing wisdom in one accessible, timeless package. At the heart of his approach is a big idea: Great marketers don't use consumers to solve their company's problem; they use marketing to solve other people's problems. They don't just make noise; they make the world better. Truly powerful marketing is grounded in empathy, generosity, and emotional labour.

This book teaches you how to identify your smallest viable audience; draw on the right signals and signs to position your offering; build trust and permission with your target market; speak to the narratives your audience tells themselves about status, affiliation and dominance; spot opportunities to create and release tension; and give people the tools to achieve their goals.

Godin’s books are always good value and it shows why he is so well regarded as an authority and visionary in this area.

If you need a last minute stocking filler for yourself, this is a worthwhile book to add to your “nice” list.

My New Christmas Movie To Watch

The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix.

Now it may be that I’ve been brainwashed into thinking this film can rank as highly as other Christmas classics such as Elf, National Lampoons and Die Hard because my children seem to have this movie constantly on repeat.

That means I must have seen it now at least a dozen times and to be honest I quite like it and its modern twist on St Nick.

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s well worth a look to help get you into the Christmas cheer.

Apparently, so I’ve been told, it’s Kurt Russell’s biggest opening box office draw ever

Which for a man who once played an 80’s character called Snake Plissken and is married to Goldie Hawn is pretty good going in 2018.

Gadget Keeping My Car Safe

Defender Signal Blocking Pouch RFID - Grey Phone Case Signal Blocking Device - Car Key Signal Blocker Pouch Security Case - RFID Blocker

The only problem with having nice modern cars is that someone is always trying to steal them.

Almost on a daily basis I hear about someone having their keyless entry system hacked/relayed/cloned and their expensive pride and joy driven off by unscrupulous thieves.

I was recommend this inexpensive pouch by a friend as I have a few luxury vehicles at my home and all have keyless entry.

Basically at night you can simply pop your car keys in the pouch and it absorbs any signal meaning the thieves can’t lock onto it and relay it back to their receiver near the car.

I’ve tried it and the car won’t unlock with the keys in the pouch even when I stand next to it.

Genius and simple.

If you have a keyless entry car, I would definitely suggest you get hold of one.

As always, I love getting your feedback on Twitter and email. Did you have a favourite from the list? Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for me to try?

Don’t be shy, let me know. Just send a tweet to @dcb_jones with #DomsDigest at the end so I can find it or you can email me at dominicj@barttech.co.uk to get in touch.

Have a great week!
